Great to Meet You! I’m Lisa Smyth
Life Balance
For the past few years, we have been enjoying life in Northern California. With our daughter now in college, I decided to go back to work but needed a flexible schedule with life balance. In addition, I was interested in how to detox our lifestyle and habits. After my dad passed away three years ago, I moved my 94-year-old mother near me because I dearly love and cherish each day I have with her. Mom is my WHY.
Quickly, I got up to speed to learn about obtaining power of attorney on my parent’s accounts, elder care, medical insurance, long-term care, and home health care; and their limitations to best serve my mother. That alone can be a full-time job. Consequently, I also discovered that her doctor had not reviewed her medications for years. Also, I’m learning more about dementia and its debilitating effects. I found that she needed gentler skin care and hygiene products that were safe for her delicate skin.
Time and Freedom
As a result, I chose to start a home business in the health and wellness industry that I could work anywhere in the world where the internet was available. Over the past two years, we celebrate more and enjoy working together knowing we are positively impacting the lives of others.
Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to be healthy. I don’t take any prescriptions drugs. Although I will admit, I found the “holy grail” when I started bio-identical hormones for menopausal symptoms. Holy Moly! I feel like my old self again!
However, I kept hearing of friends and family that discovered they had chronic health problems (i.e., asthma, high blood pressure, weight issues, diabetic, eczema, dry, itchy skin, headaches).
Could these conditions be controlled or eliminated naturally?
Family Life
In my 20’s and 30’s, I worked full-time as an executive assistant to an in-house counsel at a semiconductor company in the Bay Area. Many days were 10 hours or more strapped to my computer or phone all day. My horses were my stress outlet. Consequently, it stressed me more because I barely had the necessary time for exercising and training. I needed a life balance shift.
Seven years of marriage had elapsed before my husband and I finally began infertility treatments. As a result, three years without success, we started the adoption process. A local family happily chose us, and in 1999 we adopted our daughter. She’s now in college. At the time, I elected to stop working due to stress and time constraints. Although I knew money would be tight, I was willing to make necessary adjustments.
Lifestyle Change
In 2004 we had an opportunity to relocate to Reno, Nevada. It’s a much smaller community where you can drive from one end of town to the other in about 20 minutes. It’s a friendly place to live where the sun shines about 300 days a year.
While in Reno, the doctor diagnosed my husband with cancer at an early stage in 2009. As a result, radiation treatment was successful. Life was good, we thought. In 2014 we needed to move back to the Bay Area for my husband’s work. Two years later his cancer had returned, and he again elected for treatment, which has been successful. Thank goodness!
Concurrently my husband sought assistance for another health issue through a nutritionist due to lack of energy, body achiness, stomach bloating/diarrhea and trouble sleeping. After a few weeks of a limited diet and then food re-introductions, gluten-intolerance and an allergic to caffeine were the main issues.
If you’ve ever looked at food labels, almost all processed foods contain gluten in one form or another. A shift in our shopping and eating habits begin. I had to rethink the way I cooked and stopped buying prepackage or ready-to-eat foods. We don’t eat bread much anymore or drink sodas. Nothing too extreme lifestyle-wise but we all feel better now.
I knew there were underlying reasons. The family is my WHY.
Finding Answers
Looking for a root cause, I started dissecting our environment to find answers because we were experiencing other health issues too; such as allergies, dry/itchy skin, dry coughing, and headaches.
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have more health issues than others?
I do! For years I’ve wondered the same thing.
Through my research, I found that the average home contains 62 toxic chemicals, most in the form of cleaning products. The national cleaning products include carcinogenic components linked to lung cancer among other autoimmune diseases.
If you’re like me, you probably used the same products your mother used. We saw the ‘sparkling’ clean results on television ads. We didn’t know any better. But, the big box companies did.
I remember cleaning the shower stall was the WORST! …spray, scrub and vacate to breathe again! It was awful.
Most noteworthy; a 30-year European Lung study showed that cleaning your home just once a week with these chemicals is the same as smoking 20 cigarettes a day.
My Life Today
I wake up each day grateful that I feel good. After years of pounding my body playing sports, I didn’t always recover or feel my best for a day or two or three.
About 12 years ago while in Reno I found tennis. I love to play tennis. Unfortunately, plantar fasciitis is my trouble spot affecting in one foot or the other. You may be experiencing the same. It’s excruciating and painful. I found that my root cause was due to an imbalance of my kinetic chain. Starting with my hips; a manual therapist adjusted my knee, ankle, and foot. Once aligned, it’s now controllable. Now I follow a regiment of clean(er) eating, supplements with other nutritional tools, appropriate stretching and exercise, and proper sleep to improve my recuperation, overall function, and clarity.
With retirement years just a few years away, a flexible business is perfect. We are looking forward to spending time together, visiting our daughter where ever she may land or traveling the world.
Self-Discovery
What brings me joy? I am helping others find answers so they can feel better too. Educating and helping others is my WHY. Now I share my knowledge of health and teach home entrepreneurs how to achieve sustainable financial and time freedom. I could never have imaged I would be changing lives for so many. I now have the time to be present for family and enjoy friends; travel when and where I want; and follow my dreams.
It’s amazing how the list of small health issues we have encountered have disappeared. My husband’s allergy days are minimal, if at all. My brain fog has gone away. Sleepless nights for me, a symptom of menopause, have stopped. Even our dogs seem calmer.
Thank you to the person who shared this information with me and, I look forward to starting the conversation with you.
Blessed to meet you my New Friend.
